Michael Rapaport Launches 2029 NYC Mayoral Bid Against Mamdani
BREAKING NEWS: Actor and podcaster Michael Rapaport has officially announced his candidacy for mayor of New York City in 2029, just five days after Zohran Mamdani took office. Rapaport, a lifelong NYC resident, delivered the news during the latest episode of his podcast, I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast, stating, “2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any fucking calmer or cooler in 2026. That’s why I’m running for mayor.”
This announcement comes amid a turbulent political landscape in the city, with Mamdani’s recent election stirring significant public debate. Rapaport, 55, who is well-known for his role in Friends, has emerged as one of Mamdani’s most vocal critics, labeling him a “stain at the helm” and expressing his discontent with the new mayor’s policies and public persona.
Rapaport’s social media engagement has spiked since his announcement, where he declared, “I, Michael Rapaport, am running for Mayor of New York City — 2029. Born. Raised. NYC.” He emphasized his commitment to making the city “safe, affordable, and thriving,” while taking direct aim at Mamdani’s administration.
Mamdani’s campaign has been marked by bold proposals, including a city-wide rent freeze and free bus services, which have resonated with voters but raised questions about their budgetary implications. His popularity surged following a decisive victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, placing him on track for a strong showing in the upcoming general election.
Rapaport’s criticisms extend to Mamdani’s handling of international issues, particularly his stance on Hamas and the conflict in Gaza, which Rapaport says reflects a deeper issue of leadership. “We have a shit stain at the helm right now in New York City, and it is a reality,” he stated on his podcast, amplifying his call to action.
Despite the heated rhetoric, Rapaport acknowledged that New York will not immediately face catastrophe under Mamdani, yet he expressed concern about the mayor’s demeanor and public messaging. “He’s softening the palate for so many fucking things. He’s got a huge fucking ego,” Rapaport remarked.
As the political atmosphere intensifies, all eyes will be on the dynamics between Rapaport and Mamdani leading into the election cycle. With Rapaport’s celebrity status and vocal advocacy, his campaign is likely to attract significant media attention and public interest.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as both candidates prepare for the political battles ahead. Will Rapaport’s bold statements resonate with voters, or will Mamdani’s progressive agenda prevail? This election season is shaping up to be one of the most contentious in recent memory.
