Kevin Durant Sinks Game-Winner Against Suns, Reflects on Exit
BREAKING: Kevin Durant delivered a game-winning shot with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock, leading the Houston Rockets to a thrilling 100-97 victory over the Phoenix Suns on October 30, 2023. This dramatic moment holds special significance for Durant, who expressed deep emotions about facing his former team.
After the game, Durant revealed that the victory felt particularly rewarding due to his complicated history with the Suns, stating, “Most definitely, it meant more because it came against the place that I didn’t want to leave.” The 15-time All-Star, who scored 26 points in the matchup, reflected on his tumultuous exit, saying he felt “kicked out” of Phoenix.
The Rockets were locked in a tight battle with the Suns when Durant sank a 27-foot three-pointer to secure the win. This victory marks a pivotal moment in Durant’s career, as he joined the Rockets from the Suns this summer in a blockbuster trade that sent Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green to Phoenix.
“It feels good to play against a team that booted you out of the building and scapegoated you for all the problems they had,” Durant said. “I put all my effort and love towards the Suns and the Phoenix area, but that’s just the business.”
Durant, now 37 years old, spent 2.5 seasons with the Suns after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023. He was an All-Star during both of his full seasons in Phoenix, yet the Suns failed to meet championship expectations, losing in the first round of the playoffs in the 2023-24 season and missing the postseason entirely last year.
Despite the emotional context, Durant emphasized his competitive spirit, stating, “I want to show them that I still got some juice in the tank.” He acknowledges the desire every player feels when competing against former teams, noting, “I don’t think it’s malicious in any way, but just as a competitor, you want to go out there and beat them.”
Looking ahead, Durant expressed hope that these feelings won’t linger. “By the time I get home tonight, I probably won’t even remember it,” he said, indicating a focus on future games rather than dwelling on past grievances.
The Rockets will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season, while the Suns will be looking to regroup after this setback. Fans are eager to see how both teams respond in the coming weeks.
