Disney Worker Injured by 400-Pound Boulder at Stunt Show
UPDATE: A Disney cast member was injured during a performance of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney World in Orlando when a 400-pound prop boulder rolled loose on January 1, 2024. The incident occurred as the iconic boulder, which is part of the stunt show, veered off its track toward the audience.
In a heroic act, the cast member rushed to intercept the boulder, successfully halting its movement before it could strike spectators. Video footage of the incident rapidly went viral over the New Year’s holiday, capturing the moment when the cast member took the full force of the boulder, slamming him to the ground.
The cast member, who has not been publicly named, suffered minor injuries but is reportedly recovering. Witnesses reported seeing him bleeding after the collision, and other cast members quickly rushed to assist him. Fortunately, Disney confirmed that the injuries were not serious, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
Following the incident, Disney announced that the boulder sequence will undergo modifications while their safety team conducts a thorough review of the incident. This change is critical to ensure the safety of both cast members and audience members in future performances.
This event raises urgent questions about safety protocols in live shows, especially at attractions known for their controlled environments. The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular has been a staple at Disney World, offering thrills that are typically safe but now highlight the unpredictability of live performances.
As the safety review unfolds, guests are watching closely to see what changes will be implemented. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks that can occur in even the most controlled environments, and the bravery of the cast member has been widely praised on social media platforms.
