USC Falls to TCU 30-27 in Overtime at Alamo Bowl

The USC Trojans suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, falling 30-27 in the Alamo Bowl on December 29, 2023, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The defeat denied USC a chance to finish the season with a double-digit win total, leaving them with a final record of 9-4.

In the first quarter, Sayeri opened the scoring with a 40-yard field goal, the only points of the period. TCU’s defense made an impact when safety Jamel Johnson intercepted Maiava, marking his fifth interception of the season.

USC faced challenges in their receiving corps, with star players Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane opting out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft. Their absence was felt, as contested catches that had been a staple throughout the season were notably lacking, leading to missed opportunities.

Remarkably, Sayeri’s performance included setting a new program record with his 20th field goal of the season. Despite the loss, the USC Trojans demonstrated resilience and potential for future seasons.
