Texas A&M Offensive Lineman Jonte Newman Set to Transfer
Jonte Newman, a freshman offensive lineman at Texas A&M University, is expected to enter the transfer portal following the conclusion of his first season with the Aggies. This news was reported by On3 Sports on the morning of November 10, 2023.
Background on Jonte Newman
The 6-foot-4, 331-pound prospect from Cypress, Texas, was a highly regarded four-star recruit in the 2025 class. Despite his potential, Newman experienced limited playing time during his inaugural season in a competitive offensive line room. As he explores his options, he remains eligible for a redshirt, which would grant him four additional years of eligibility at his next institution.
During his time at Bridgeland High School, Newman earned recognition as a standout player, receiving First Team All-District 16-6A honors in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. His performance was instrumental in leading the Bears to district titles each season, showcasing his ability to significantly contribute to the team’s success. Under his protection, the team averaged nearly 225 rushing yards and 400 total yards per game.
Recruitment and Future Prospects
Newman committed to Texas A&M in April 2024 and officially signed with the program on December 4, 2024, under head coach Mike Elko. He was highly sought after during the recruiting process, ranked as the No. 25 interior offensive lineman and No. 50 overall player in Texas by 247Sports.
If Newman does enter the transfer portal, he would become the 11th player from Texas A&M to do so this offseason. The Aggies are focusing on rebuilding their offensive line as they prepare for the 2026 campaign, making Newman’s potential departure significant for the team’s future strategy.
