Rangers Face Potential Loss of Bailey Rice as Clubs Eye Midfielder
Rangers are at risk of losing Bailey Rice as several English clubs show interest in the 19-year-old midfielder. Both Aston Villa and Sunderland are closely monitoring Rice’s development, while West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City are preparing pre-contract offers for him in January. There are currently no indications that Rangers are in talks regarding a new contract for the promising player.
In related developments, Rangers are considering recalling Oscar Cortes from his loan at Sporting Gijon due to his limited playing time. According to La Voz de Asturias, the 21-year-old winger does not fit into head coach Danny Rohl’s plans and will likely be assigned to another club if he returns.
Former Rangers captain Richard Gough has expressed concern over the club’s current performance, stating that the players require an “intervention” to address their struggles this season. Gough’s comments come as Rangers face a challenging campaign, struggling to regain their competitive form.
Meanwhile, ex-Rangers forward Greg Stewart has signed a short-term deal with Cove Rangers until January after a previous agreement with Indian club Mohun Bagan fell through. Stewart recently contributed to Cove’s unexpected victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, highlighting his ongoing determination to succeed.
On the management front, former Aberdeen and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness revealed he declined an offer to take a similar role at Rangers some time ago. His decision underscores the complexities surrounding leadership transitions within the club.
In player movement, Aberdeen is expected to mutually part ways with Kusini Yengi in January, while other players such as Vicente Besuijen and Peter Ambrose may also exit. Additionally, midfielders Sivert Heltne Nilsen and Leighton Clarkson, along with on-loan defender Alfie Dorrington, face uncertain futures at the club.
The National Trust for Scotland has joined voices urging assurances regarding the preservation of the original Hampden Park in Glasgow, emphasizing the importance of this historic venue in Scottish football.
In other news, Celtic’s captain Callum McGregor has sidestepped questions about a potential return to the national team for the upcoming World Cup, following his retirement from international duty after Euro 2024. Meanwhile, delays in appointing Wilfried Nancy from Columbus Crew as Celtic’s manager are reportedly due to visa complications.
Financially, Celtic has significantly outperformed Rangers, earning £250 million more over the past decade. As Hearts pursue a new contract for midfielder Cammy Devlin, manager Derek McInnes remains optimistic about the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
Lastly, billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, known as Scotland’s richest man, is among bidders for the struggling Championship club Sheffield Wednesday. Previously, he declined a chance to purchase Inverness Caledonian Thistle, indicating his strategic approach to investment in football clubs.
