John (Jack) Paul Brown, a cherished member of the San Pedro community, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. His life journey began on March 10, 1933, in Long Beach, California, where he was born to Robert and Agnes Brown.

Jack’s childhood was filled with fond memories of growing up in San Pedro. He enjoyed catching tadpoles at Averill Park and selling newspapers to sailors arriving at the port. One of his first jobs was at Helen Grace Chocolates, and during World War II, he assisted his father in his role as a Civilian Air Warden. His formative years included attending Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School and St. Anthony’s High School, where he became a dedicated distance runner, earning accolades for his performance on the Track and Field team.

A Life of Service and Family

After completing high school, Jack continued his education and earned a degree in Drafting. He began his professional career at Northrop Grumman before venturing out on his own to establish a business, where he employed many of his friends and colleagues. In 1969, Jack met Rita Cebula, the love of his life. The couple married on April 17, 1971, and together they welcomed two children, Dennis in 1972 and Julie in 1975.

Jack and Rita were devoted to their community, particularly their church, where Rita taught for 25 years at Holy Trinity Church. Jack found joy in family vacations, gardening, and sports, and he was known for his DIY projects and coin collecting. His unique sense of humor brought laughter to those around him, and he began each day with a cup of coffee, a crossword puzzle, and a keen interest in the stock market.

Remembering Jack Brown

Jack is survived by his children, Dennis and Julie, along with his grandchildren, Natalie and Vincent. He also leaves behind his sister, Agnes Welsh, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita, as well as his parents, Robert and Agnes, his brother Robert, sister Phyllis Smith, and nephews Bob and Tom Smith.

A funeral mass will be held on January 10, 2026, at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, with burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. Family and friends are encouraged to sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com.
