The Port of Long Beach has opened its application process for the Community Sponsorship Program, inviting nonprofits to submit proposals until January 30, 2024. This initiative aims to fund community events and activities that enhance public understanding of the port’s operations, particularly in areas such as the arts, environment, education, social justice, and historic preservation.

Nonprofit organizations can apply online until 5 p.m. on January 30. It is important to note that the events must be scheduled for after April 1, 2024. The applications undergo a review process, after which recommendations are made to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for final approval.

Funding Focus and Evaluation Criteria

The Community Sponsorship Program emphasizes events that effectively communicate the port’s role as an environmental steward and economic engine. To this end, proposed activities should provide promotional, marketing, and community outreach opportunities for the port.

In the previous funding cycle, which closed in September 2023, the harbor commission awarded a total of $976,000 across 330 community sponsorships. This reflects the port’s commitment to engaging with the community and supporting initiatives that align with its strategic goals.

For more information on the Community Sponsorship Program and the application process, interested parties can visit the Port of Long Beach’s official website at polb.com/sponsorships. The port accepts applications for sponsorships three times each year, specifically in January, May, and September.
