Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Trump’s Kennedy Center Hosting Amid Contract Renewal
During the latest episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” comedian and host Jimmy Kimmel took a moment to address his recent contract extension with Disney while also delivering pointed remarks towards President Donald Trump. This came after Trump’s comments at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday, where he labeled Kimmel a “horrible” TV host.
Kimmel’s response was both humorous and critical. “I thought we were friends. I’m starting to think he’s got a crush on me,” Kimmel joked, referring to Trump’s hosting duties at the Kennedy Center Honors and his participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Draw held in Washington, D.C. Kimmel highlighted Trump’s boastfulness about being the first president to host the honors, quipping, “Yeah, why do you think that is?” He further added, “We’ve also never had Neil Patrick Harris order a military strike on a fishing boat before.”
Kimmel confirmed his contract renewal, announcing that he will continue hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” through May 2027, humorously stating, “or until the world ends, whichever comes first.” Speaking at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, he expressed gratitude to his audience, saying, “It means a lot to me to have your attention – and to work with this great group of people for another year.”
His renewal was officially announced on social media, where Kimmel wrote, “I am pleased to announce another no-talent year!” The phrase “no-talent” is a recurring insult Trump uses against late-night hosts who criticize him.
The relationship between Kimmel and Trump has been tumultuous, marked by Trump’s frequent outbursts on Truth Social. After Kimmel pointed out Trump’s reaction to questions about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the president retaliated on Truth Social, questioning why ABC would keep Kimmel on air despite what he termed “NO TALENT and VERY POOR TELEVISION RATINGS.”
Kimmel’s interactions with ABC have also faced challenges. In September, his show was pulled from the air for several days due to complaints from major TV station owners regarding his comments about Charlie Kirk, a young conservative activist. Despite these challenges, Kimmel remains a prominent figure in late-night television.
The ongoing dynamic between Kimmel and Trump reflects the broader landscape of political commentary in entertainment, where humor often intersects with serious issues. Kimmel’s ability to address these topics with wit continues to resonate with audiences, securing his place in the late-night landscape well into the coming years.
