Eric Dane Shares Life with ALS in Upcoming Memoir Set for 2026
Actor Eric Dane is set to share his journey with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in his upcoming memoir, titled Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, scheduled for release in 2026. The former star of Grey’s Anatomy reveals his struggles with the progressive neurodegenerative disease, aiming to inspire readers to find meaning in their own lives amid challenges.
Dane, who publicly disclosed his diagnosis in April 2023, expressed the importance of documenting his experiences. In a statement, he said, “I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real—this illness, this challenge, and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book.” He emphasized his intention to “capture the moments that shaped me—the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted.” Through his memoir, Dane hopes to encourage others to remember what it means to live with heart.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal condition that affects motor neurons, leading to progressive paralysis. In June, the 53-year-old actor provided an update on his health, stating, “I have one functioning arm. My left side is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working.” This heartbreaking revelation highlights the severity of his condition. In September, he was seen publicly in a wheelchair during an event in Washington, DC.
Dane is well-known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, where he captivated audiences from 2006 until 2021. Additionally, he gained recognition for portraying Cal Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria. However, his acting career began more than a decade earlier, with notable performances in films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, where he played Multiple Man, and Marley & Me, where he appeared alongside Owen Wilson.
The memoir is not just a personal account but a beacon of hope for many facing their own battles. Dane’s aspiration is to resonate with readers who may find themselves in difficult situations, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles. As he continues to navigate his diagnosis, his story serves as a testament to resilience and the human spirit.
As the release date approaches, fans and supporters eagerly anticipate Dane’s reflections on life, love, and the moments that matter most.
