Trump Alerts Nation to ‘Dark Forces’ Targeting Tariff Policy
UPDATE: Former President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning regarding what he describes as “dark and sinister forces” threatening to dismantle his tariff policy, which he claims bolstered the U.S. economy. In a series of urgent posts on Truth Social earlier today, November 9, 2023, Trump voiced his concerns as tensions rise over international tariff decisions and water treaty violations by Mexico.
Trump’s first post addressed European nations contemplating new tariff policies against China, stating, “The biggest threat in history to United States National Security would be a negative decision on Tariffs by the U.S. Supreme Court.” He emphasized that a ruling against tariffs would leave the U.S. “financially defenseless” while other nations, including those in Europe, implement their own tariff strategies.
In a second post, Trump reiterated his belief that his administration’s economic policies had made the U.S. the “strongest” economy globally. He claimed, “Because of Tariffs, easily and quickly applied, our National Security has been greatly enhanced.” Trump declared that only “dark and sinister forces” would want to see this economic strength diminished.
His comments coincide with a growing crisis regarding water supply from Mexico, where Trump accused the country of violating a critical water treaty. He stated, “Mexico continues to violate our comprehensive Water Treaty, and this violation is seriously hurting our BEAUTIFUL TEXAS CROPS AND LIVESTOCK.” Trump highlighted that Mexico owes the U.S. over 800,000 acre-feet of water due to non-compliance over the past five years and urged for the immediate release of 200,000 acre-feet before the end of the year.
In a dramatic escalation, Trump announced he has authorized documentation to impose a 5% Tariff on Mexico if the necessary water is not released “IMMEDIATELY.” He stressed the urgency, stating, “The longer Mexico takes to release the water, the more our Farmers are hurt. Mexico has an obligation to FIX THIS NOW.”
While Trump maintains that the U.S. economy is thriving, experts warn of potential price increases looming on the horizon. Joseph Feldman, a senior managing director at Telsey Advisory Group, expressed concerns that consumers may soon see more widespread price hikes, particularly as holiday sales promotions may not alleviate these pressures.
As tensions escalate, the implications of Trump’s statements on both trade policy and international relations could have significant effects on American farmers and the broader economy. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as both domestic and international stakeholders respond to these urgent issues.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story that could reshape U.S. economic policy and international trade relations.
