Iapani Laloulu Named Finalist for Prestigious Rimington Trophy
Oregon center Iapani Laloulu has been named a finalist for the prestigious Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding center in college football. Laloulu is among three finalists, alongside Logan Jones of Iowa and Jake Slaughter from Florida, underscoring his exceptional performance this season.
Laloulu’s selection marks a significant achievement for the University of Oregon, making him the fourth player from the institution to be recognized as a finalist for this award. He joins the ranks of former Oregon players such as Hroniss Grasu (2013 & 2014), Max Unger (2008), and Jackson Powers-Johnson, who won the award in 2023. This recognition reflects the strong tradition of excellence at Oregon in college football.
Over his career, Laloulu has shown remarkable consistency, starting in 27 consecutive games for the Ducks, a streak that began with the 2024 Fiesta Bowl. His performance has been noteworthy, as he ranks second among Big Ten centers with an impressive 89.1 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. Throughout this season, he has allowed only one sack and a total of six pressures across 333 pass-blocking opportunities, demonstrating his skill and reliability on the field.
The Rimington Trophy committee determines its winner based on the All-American selections from the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, and the Football Writers Association of America. The announcement of the winner will take place during the College Football Awards show on January 5, 2024, with the formal presentation of the 26th Rimington Trophy scheduled for January 24, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The attention surrounding Laloulu’s recognition adds to the excitement of the upcoming game, where the No. 5 Oregon Ducks (11-1) are set to face the No. 12 James Madison Dukes (12-1). As the season progresses, the spotlight on Laloulu and his achievements is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport.
