Urgent Snowstorm Warning: Up to 5 Inches Expected in Indiana
UPDATE: A significant winter storm is set to impact Central Indiana starting Thursday night, with accumulating snow forecasted through early Friday. As colder air settles in, gusty winds have intensified the chill, making this weather system a pressing concern for residents.
Forecasts indicate that snow will begin to blanket the region, particularly affecting the evening commute, especially in western areas. The storm could bring 1 to 3 inches of snow along and southwest of a line from Lafayette to Richmond, while central and southern parts of the area may see totals as high as 3 to 5 inches.
Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight, with temperatures dipping into the mid-20s. While Thursday will remain mostly cloudy and cool with highs around 31°F, the real impact will be felt as snow overspreads much of the region. Officials are urging residents to exercise caution during travel as conditions could become hazardous.
In addition, authorities warn that another round of light snow could arrive on Saturday, bringing with it the coldest air of the season. Highs may plunge to just 19°F on Saturday, with wind chills making it feel even colder on Sunday.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the evolving weather situation as the storm approaches. This weather system is not only significant due to the snow accumulation but also because it marks a stark drop in temperatures, which could impact travel and outdoor activities.
Be prepared for changing conditions and stay tuned for further updates from the WRTV Storm Team. The latest forecasts and safety tips will be vital for navigating the coming days as winter weather takes hold across Central Indiana.
