United Airlines Flight Strikes Mystery Object, Captain Injured
URGENT UPDATE: A United Airlines Boeing 737 Max experienced a shocking midair incident that resulted in a cracked windscreen and injuries to the captain while flying at an altitude of 36,000 feet. The aircraft, operating as Flight 1093, took off from Denver on Thursday morning, heading to Los Angeles, when it unexpectedly began to descend near Moab, Utah.
The incident unfolded just 37 minutes after takeoff, as the aircraft began an unanticipated descent. Data from Flightradar24 revealed that after another 10 minutes, the plane abruptly turned north, diverting to Salt Lake City. Eyewitness reports indicated visible damage, leading to immediate concerns about passenger safety.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed they are investigating the incident, stating they are “gathering radar, weather, and flight recorder data.” The windscreen is currently being sent to NTSB laboratories for examination. In a statement to Business Insider, United Airlines acknowledged the damage, emphasizing that the plane landed safely in Salt Lake City to address the issues with its multilayered windshield.
Aviation enthusiast JonNYC reported details of the damage on social media, posting images that appeared to show shattered glass in the cockpit and the captain’s bloodied forearm. He also noted scorch marks on the aircraft, suggesting potential impact from space debris or a meteorite.
Passengers aboard the flight were transferred to a replacement aircraft, which eventually landed in Los Angeles at 1:12 p.m. PT, approximately five and a half hours late. Meanwhile, the damaged Boeing 737 Max was rerouted to Chicago Rockford Airport for maintenance, where it will undergo further inspection.
This developing story raises critical questions about aviation safety and the potential risks posed by unidentified flying objects in our atmosphere. As investigations continue, officials will be examining all data to determine the cause of this alarming incident.
