Suspected Subway Slasher Arrested Following Brooklyn Burglary
UPDATE: A man suspected in a series of subway slashings has been arrested following a burglary in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Odyssey Head, 27, was apprehended around 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, after breaking into a building on New York Avenue, damaging property, and igniting items of clothing before fleeing the scene.
Authorities have linked Head to three violent subway attacks that occurred over the weekend, with all three victims suffering facial injuries. The first incident took place on a Q train early Saturday morning. Two additional attacks followed, with the second occurring Saturday night just before 10 p.m. on Foster Avenue and New York Avenue, and the third on Sunday morning just before 7 a.m. on Newkirk Avenue. Victims, aged 37, 53, and 56, were hospitalized but are reported to be in stable condition.
When arrested, Head was found in possession of a kitchen knife, which is believed to be the weapon used in the slashings. Although he has not yet been formally charged in connection with the subway incidents, police are actively investigating the case.
Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant as investigations continue. Head has been taken to Maimonides Medical Center for a psychological evaluation, raising concerns about his mental state during these alarming incidents.
The community is shaken by these violent events, and the NYPD is increasing patrols in the subway system to ensure passenger safety. Authorities continue to seek additional information and witnesses to the attacks.
