Summerhill Homes Acquires Los Gatos Lodge for $78.4 Million
UPDATE: Summerhill Homes has officially acquired the Los Gatos Lodge for a staggering $78.4 million, a move that signals a pivotal step in the ongoing housing development at the site. This purchase, documented on October 15, 2023, marks a significant advancement in local housing initiatives as the demand for residential options surges.
The acquisition of the 128-room hotel located at 50 Los Gatos-Saratoga Rd comes after the Los Gatos Town Council unanimously approved Summerhill’s ambitious plan for a 155-unit housing development earlier this year. The approved project will consist of three-story townhomes spread across 28 buildings, incorporating a crucial mix of affordable housing options.
Among the planned residences, the development will include 26 below-market-rate units, with 16 designated for low-income residents and 10 for those with moderate incomes. This initiative aims to provide vital housing solutions for a thriving, multigenerational community in Los Gatos.
John Hickey, vice president of development for Summerhill Homes, expressed confidence in the project, stating, “We believe that the project will be a valuable asset to the community, helping the town provide housing so that it will continue to sustain a thriving, multigenerational community.” Such statements underline the urgent need for sustainable housing in the area.
The Los Gatos Lodge, originally purchased by Keet Nerhan in 1996, has a historic background, with its construction dating back to 1936. Despite attempts to sell the property in 2019 that ultimately fell through, Nerhan’s decision to sell to Summerhill now opens a new chapter for this long-standing hotel.
The timeline for the development remains unclear, but as plans progress, residents and stakeholders are eager to see the transformation of this significant site. As the housing crisis continues to impact communities nationwide, developments such as this are crucial for addressing local needs.
Stay tuned for further updates as we monitor the progression of this vital housing project. The implications for the Los Gatos community are profound, promising to reshape the landscape of local living and affordability.
