URGENT UPDATE: The Salvation Army is in desperate need of toy donations to ensure 400 local families in San Diego can celebrate a joyous Christmas this year. With only one week left before distribution starts, the organization is hundreds of toys short of its goal.

Inside the Kroc Center warehouse, a variety of toys including basketballs, dolls, and art supplies are piled high, but the collection is falling drastically short.

“Even like a Barbie house, this is something that we’ll put aside specifically for a family that may have had a difficult time this year,”

said Glynis Eckert, director of marketing for the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

The organization is facing a critical shortage across various age groups, particularly for older children. Janet Reade, director of volunteers and community engagement, stated,

“The age groups that we get the most donations for tend to be younger children, but our pre-selected families can register their children of all ages, from 0 to 12. We are looking for toys for those older age groups.”

Time is running out. Next week, parents from a pre-registered list will choose and collect toys for their children. The Salvation Army aims to provide each parent with three or four toys per child. “We hope to have every parent able to get three or four toys for their children,” Eckert added.

If the toy shortage persists, the Salvation Army may be forced to purchase toys using its own funds, creating a significant financial burden that could hinder its broader mission of spreading holiday cheer. The organization is committed to providing families with a complete Christmas experience, which includes not only toys, but also gift wrapping materials and food boxes.

“A sack full of toys for their children, along with gift wrap, bows, and gift tags, allows families to feel like they’ve had the Christmas experience,” Eckert explained.

Donations can be made in person at the Kroc Center, online, or through monetary contributions. Click here to donate and help bring joy to families in need this holiday season. The clock is ticking—every moment counts as the organization approaches its critical deadline.

This holiday season, let’s come together and ensure that every child has the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with gifts and love. Share this urgent message and help spread the word!
