Ring Founder Calls AWS Outage a “Tough Day” for Customers
UPDATE: Ring founder Jamie Siminoff has described the recent Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage as a “tough day” for the home security company, affecting countless customers who rely on their service. In a candid interview with Business Insider, Siminoff expressed his commitment to providing support during this crisis, stating, “I would like to think we did the best for our customers that we can through that.”
The AWS outage on Monday disrupted numerous websites and online services, with Ring customers reporting they were unable to access their security cameras or disarm alarms. The outage has raised significant concerns, as many rely on Ring for home security. Siminoff acknowledged the emotional toll this caused, saying, “You never want to disappoint customers. We call our customers neighbors.”
With some users likening the chaos to a “modern scary movie,” the situation quickly escalated on social media, with customers voicing fears about potential break-ins. “I hope no one gets robbed right now,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Siminoff, who returned to Ring in April 2025 as VP of product after a brief departure, emphasized his dedication to customer engagement, noting, “My email’s on every box that we send out. I’m very out there.” His leadership aims to realign Ring with its security roots, focusing on customer trust and safety.
The AWS outage not only impacted Ring but also affected various Amazon services, with customers unable to place orders or access their accounts. Some were disturbed by unexpected alarms from their Alexa devices. The outage is believed to have stemmed from a Domain Name System error at AWS’s Northern Virginia data center.
Fortunately, AWS services are now operating normally, easing the concerns of users. Siminoff reflected on the incident, stating, “We got through it. Both Amazon as a whole, as well as Ring as a division, did our best.” He concluded with a resilient note, saying, “I’ve just got to keep trucking along.”
As Ring continues to navigate these challenges, the focus remains on restoring customer confidence and enhancing security features. The impact of this outage illustrates the critical role that cloud services play in everyday life, making this a vital moment for both Ring and its users.
