URGENT UPDATE: Massachusetts shelters are waiving adoption fees for all dogs aged one and older during a special holiday drive named “Snow Place Like Home.” This weeklong event runs from December 8 to December 14, 2023, and aims to boost the adoption rates of adult dogs who need loving homes.

The MSPCA-Angell, in collaboration with five shelter partners, has launched this initiative to combat the troubling decline in adult dog adoptions, particularly affecting larger breeds. Jamie Garabedian, project manager in the MSPCA-Angell’s Animal Protection Division, stated, “Lowering the barriers to adoption is crucial for reducing euthanasia rates and improving the welfare of animals in Massachusetts.”

Garabedian emphasized the importance of this adopt-a-thon, noting that many misconceptions surround older and larger dogs. “People often think older dogs can’t be playful, or they need excessive exercise,” she explained. “However, all dogs have unique needs, and many older dogs still have plenty of love to give.”

Participating shelters are eager to find homes for these deserving pets. The public is urged to visit mspca.org/dogs for more information on the event and to meet the dogs available for adoption.

This initiative highlights the urgent need for community support to protect vulnerable animals and ensure they find safe, loving homes. As the holiday season approaches, this opportunity to adopt an adult dog could change lives—both for the animals and their new families.

Don’t miss out on this chance to welcome a furry friend into your home. Share this news with friends and family to spread the word about the “Snow Place Like Home” adopt-a-thon!
