UPDATE: Travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) are in for a significant upgrade as the largest interior renovation of Terminal 1 has just been completed. This $242 million project, a collaboration between the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) and Delta Air Lines, unveils a modern, brighter look for holiday travelers.

Renovations began in the fall of 2023 and have transformed the terminal’s six concourses and 75 Delta gate hold rooms. This major overhaul is set to enhance the travel experience at MSP, where Delta commands a substantial 70% passenger market share.

“This transformation elevates the passenger experience from the checkpoints to the gate areas,” stated Brian Ryks, CEO of MAC. He emphasized the importance of the partnership with Delta in delivering modern spaces that enhance MSP’s award-winning customer service.

Among the extensive improvements are new terrazzo or carpet flooring, updated wall finishes, and energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures. Gate areas have received a complete refresh, featuring new seating, carpeting, counters, and signage. Additionally, dynamic gate signs have been installed, providing travelers with quick access to flight and destination information from down the concourse.

These renovations coincide with the culmination of another significant effort known as the Airport Modernization Program, which has been in progress for ten years. This initiative focused on modernizing pre-security areas, including checkpoints, ticketing, and baggage claim, and was completed just this fall. The MAC invested $182.5 million into this program, with Delta contributing an additional $60 million.

Travelers can now expect a more efficient and enjoyable experience as they navigate through the newly renovated Terminal 1. With the holiday season approaching, this timely enhancement is poised to make a positive impact on the millions who will pass through MSP in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more updates on travel enhancements and airport news as MSP continues to elevate its facilities for a better passenger experience.
