Kevin Durant Reacts to Rockets’ Frustrating 0-2 Start
UPDATE: Star forward Kevin Durant expressed optimism despite the Houston Rockets’ disappointing 0-2 start following a tough 115-111 loss to the Detroit Pistons on October 27, 2023. Durant noted that both players and coaches are “pissed off,” but he sees that early-season frustration as a positive sign for the team.
In a game that showcased Durant’s scoring prowess—he dropped 37 points on 9-of-18 shooting and an impressive 16-of-18 from the free-throw line—the Rockets still fell short of their first win in front of legends Yao Ming and Hakeem Olajuwon, who were courtside.
The game was tightly contested, echoing their season-opening 125-124 double-overtime loss to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Players are adamant that they cannot accept moral victories, especially with championship aspirations. “Just feel like we haven’t played a good game yet,” said guard Amen Thompson. “We have championship-level expectations.”
As the clock wound down, Durant attempted to spark a comeback with under 30 seconds remaining, trailing 113-111. After drawing a double team, he passed to Alperen Şengun, whose shot was blocked by Pistons forward Paul Reed. Detroit guard Cade Cunningham sealed the win with two free throws shortly after.
Durant acknowledged the challenge of balancing his aggressive play with allowing teammates to contribute. “It’s a balance I felt like when I came back in that fourth quarter,” he stated. Despite the loss, he has averaged 30 points across two games, shooting 53% from the floor and 43% from beyond the arc.
The Rockets entered the season with the fifth-best odds to win the NBA title at 14-1, according to ESPN BET. As they look to turn things around, all eyes will be on their next matchup. Fans are eager to see how Durant and the Rockets will respond to this early adversity.
Stay tuned for updates as the Rockets aim for their first win of the season in their upcoming games.
