James Harden Surges to 10th All-Time Scorer, Passes Melo
UPDATE: In a stunning display of talent, LA Clippers star James Harden has officially entered the NBA’s top 10 all-time scorers, surpassing Carmelo Anthony during a heated game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. Harden entered the contest just 21 points shy of Anthony’s total of 28,289 points and reached this milestone with two crucial free throws at 4:23 of the third quarter.
This achievement marks a significant moment in Harden’s career, as he is now just behind Shaquille O’Neal at 28,596 points and former teammate Kevin Durant with 31,024 points on the all-time list. “You look at that list, it’s like there’s no way,” Harden remarked earlier this week, reflecting on his journey. “It’s just literally like a dream come true.”
Harden’s scoring prowess has been a game-changer, particularly his signature move—the step-back jumper. Since the 2013-14 season, he has made nearly 2,000 step-back jumpers, contributing over 5,100 points from this shot alone, far outpacing his competitors.
With an average of 26.5 points per game this season, Harden is proud to be one of only three guards in the top 10, alongside legends like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. “I was looking at the list, and it’s like all those guys are way bigger than me,” he said, emphasizing the hard work that has propelled him to this elite status.
“When I actually started creating, they were like, ‘He’s traveling! He’s traveling!’ Now it’s like even the youth are doing it,” Harden added, highlighting his impact on the game.
Harden’s current achievements also include passing Ray Allen for second place on the career three-pointers list, with 3,255 threes to date. However, he acknowledges that catching Stephen Curry, who leads with 4,111, is unlikely.
Clippers star Kawhi Leonard praised Harden, stating, “He’s still doing stuff that these guys, faces of the league, are doing. He is 36 years old, and the production level is still there.”
Reflecting on his journey, Harden noted the pivotal moment of his trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Houston Rockets, where he truly found his rhythm and became a scoring powerhouse. “Life-changing,” he described the trade, pondering where he might be without it.
As Harden continues to climb up the scoring ranks, fans and analysts alike are left wondering how much longer he can maintain his high level of play and which legends he might catch next. With LeBron James leading the list at 42,268 points, Harden’s journey is far from over.
Stay tuned for more updates as Harden aims to further etch his name in NBA history and redefine scoring in the game.
