Granite Quarry Shines Bright with Annual Holiday Celebration

GRANITE QUARRY, NC — December 2, 2023: Granite Quarry just lit up the holiday season with its annual Christmas at the Lake celebration, drawing families and festive spirits to Granite Lake Park for a night filled with joy and community engagement. The event, which began earlier this afternoon, has transformed the lakeside into a dazzling winter wonderland.

The highlight of the evening was the eagerly awaited tree lighting ceremony, which took place at 5:45 p.m. As Mayor Brittany Barnhardt addressed the audience, dozens of trees lit up almost simultaneously, illuminating the shoreline with a spectacular display. For the first time, the town showcased a spectacular over ten-foot tall tree adorned with white lights, making it a standout feature among the many sponsored trees from local businesses and organizations.

Families enjoyed a variety of activities, including festive characters like the Gingerbread Man and the Grinch, who mingled with the crowd. Children delighted in lawn games and participated in s’more making around a cozy fire pit, generously sponsored by Novant Health. There were also booths where kids could write letters to Santa and even meet him for photos, enhancing the holiday spirit.

In addition to the festive fun, the town organized a house light competition, inviting residents to submit their decorated homes for a chance to win a $100 gift card and a sign to display in their yard. This initiative was sponsored by Select Realty and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

The event also supported the community through Operation Christmas Spirit, which assists families in need during the holiday season. Granite Quarry Event Coordinator Debbie Loflin-Benge explained the program’s mission: “We get a Christmas list from the family with what they need. They’re not asking for extravagances; they need essentials like food and toilet paper.” The program aims to help ten local families identified through the school system.

As the sun set, excitement built around the lake. A crowd gathered, eager to witness the transformation of the park into a holiday spectacle. Volunteers and staff worked tirelessly—over 15 individuals contributed to making the event a success, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.

Local vendors added to the festive atmosphere, offering treats like hot chocolate and candy apples from Happy’s Farm, which also generously donated character costumes for the event. The nearby F&M Bank provided a trolley service to help families park conveniently and attend the celebration.

The vibrant lights, joyful activities, and community spirit created a memorable evening that will be cherished by all who attended. With hundreds of attendees enjoying the festivities, Granite Quarry’s Christmas at the Lake is a shining example of how community events can bring people together and spread holiday cheer.
