Dolly Parton Reflects on Grief and Health During Dollywood’s 2026 Season Launch
Dolly Parton has opened up about her health and emotional well-being during a recent public appearance to mark the beginning of the 2026 season at Dollywood. The country music icon, who lost her husband, Carl Dean, on March 3, 2025, acknowledged that the grief from his passing and some minor health issues have taken a toll on her.
In a heartfelt address, Parton, 80, expressed how the loss of Dean, with whom she shared nearly six decades of marriage, has left her feeling “worn down and worn out.” She candidly discussed her struggles with grief and health while assuring fans that she is focused on recovery. “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them,” she stated during her keynote speech, as reported by local station WVLT 8.
As she prepares for the Dollywood season, Parton remains optimistic. “I just kind of got worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on,” she said. “But all is good. It didn’t slow me down.” Her resilience shone through as she took the stage alongside Eugene Naughton, president of the Dollywood Company, to celebrate the park’s new season.
Parton also addressed rumors surrounding her personal life with her characteristic humor. She reassured fans that she has not started dating since Dean’s passing, humorously stating, “I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me. If I should show up at the pearly gates with somebody else, he would not like that.”
Despite recent health challenges, including the postponement of her upcoming Las Vegas residency initially scheduled for December 2025, Parton emphasized her improving condition. In a social media post, she reassured her followers, saying, “I ain’t dead yet!” This statement followed her earlier announcement about her health concerns, which had prompted worry among fans.
Parton reflected on her relationship with Dean, sharing the depth of their bond. “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together,” she wrote. “Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.” The couple first met when she was 18 and Dean was 21, marrying in 1966 and maintaining a largely private relationship.
As Dollywood opens for its 41st year, Parton is not only celebrating the park’s legacy but also her personal journey of healing. She remains committed to her fans and to the joyful spirit that has defined her career. Her dedication to both her health and her audience is a testament to her enduring strength and charisma.
