Civil Suit Against UFC Star Conor McGregor Dropped Immediately
UPDATE: A civil lawsuit against UFC star Conor McGregor has been dropped, marking a significant turn in a case alleging sexual assault. The suit was dismissed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday after the plaintiff, a 49-year-old business executive, voluntarily filed for dismissal.
The lawsuit claimed that McGregor sexually assaulted the woman in a bathroom during a Miami Heat game at the Kaseya Center in June 2023. The plaintiff had initially filed the suit on January 14, but the Florida State Attorney’s Office chose not to pursue criminal charges in this incident.
On Tuesday, the plaintiff submitted a notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, indicating that no further litigation will occur related to this matter. McGregor, 37, has consistently denied all allegations against him.
The lawsuit detailed that McGregor and the woman had been conversing in the Courtside Club at Kaseya Center when he allegedly grabbed her by the hand and led her to the men’s restroom, where the assault reportedly took place.
This dismissal comes in light of McGregor’s past legal troubles; last year, he was found liable for a separate sexual assault case stemming from an incident in 2018 in an Irish High Court. He was ordered to pay 248,000 euros, approximately $257,000, to the victim, and an appeal against that ruling was denied.
Although McGregor has not competed in mixed martial arts since suffering a broken leg during a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, he has expressed a desire to return to the octagon for the UFC’s upcoming event in June.
As developments unfold, fans and followers of McGregor are left to speculate on his future in the sport amidst ongoing controversies. This case’s dismissal may influence public perception as he aims for a comeback in the competitive world of mixed martial arts.
