Brother Rice Wins State Title, Brayden Parks Shines in 16-0 Victory
UPDATE: The Brother Rice Crusaders have clinched the Class 7A state championship with a decisive 16-0 victory over Catholic League rival St. Rita at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb on December 3, 2025. Junior defensive lineman Brayden Parks was instrumental in the win, showcasing a dominant performance that solidified his reputation as a top recruit.
Parks, who contributed six tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, was a key player in a defensive effort that stifled St. Rita’s offense, limiting them to just 160 total yards. “It’s an amazing feeling,” Parks stated after the game. “We came, we saw, we won.”
The Crusaders, who finished the season with a remarkable 13-1 record, secured their first state title since 1981. This victory marks only the second football championship in the school’s history, a significant achievement for the program.
In addition to Parks, fellow Crusader CJ Gray played a crucial role, rushing for 80 yards and scoring a touchdown, while also throwing a 9-yard TD pass to Colin Goggin. The team took an early lead with Gray’s 6-yard touchdown run and maintained control throughout the game.
Brother Rice’s defense, led by Parks and Kameron McGee, who recorded two sacks, proved to be a formidable force. “I think we’ve got the best defense in the country,” McGee asserted. “We all bought in from the start, and now we’re here,” he added, underscoring the team’s hard work and dedication.
In stark contrast, St. Rita struggled offensively, with their standout players Brandon Johnson Jr. and Donovan Evans unable to make significant contributions. Their previous momentum, which included scoring 110 points over the last two games, came to a halt against Brother Rice’s relentless defense.
Celebrations are expected to continue as the Crusaders reflect on their journey. Parks, who has received offers from prestigious programs including Notre Dame, Alabama, and Ohio State, emphasized his commitment to improvement. “My run defending took a big step. I’ve gotten better in pass rush, too,” he stated, showing his determination to elevate his game further.
Coach Casey Quedenfeld praised his players for their effort and teamwork. “The Class of ’26 came in and they bought into a vision,” he commented. “It just came into fruition.”
As Brother Rice prepares to celebrate their hard-earned victory, the emotional impact of their win resonates deeply. This championship not only fulfills a long-awaited dream but also sets the stage for future success. The Crusaders are proving that with commitment and teamwork, anything is possible.
Fans and supporters are encouraged to share their excitement and pride as Brother Rice continues to make history on the football field. Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible team and their journey ahead.
