Boy Scouts Urge Jackson Residents: Schedule Tree Pickup Now!

UPDATE: Residents of Jackson, MI, are encouraged to act quickly as the annual Christmas tree pickup by Boy Scout Troop 424 is set for Saturday, January 10, starting at 8 a.m.. This curbside service is available by reservation only, and residents must place their trees at the curb by the night before.

To ensure your tree is collected, call 517-740-0570 to schedule your pickup. This year, Troop 424, associated with American Legion John F. Smith Post No. 29, will not conduct a general tree pickup, making this the only opportunity for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees responsibly.

Last year, Troop 424 successfully collected 230 trees, a tradition that has continued since the late 1970s. The trees are taken to a local farm where goats enjoy them as part of their diet. “We appreciate hearing from people how much they enjoy seeing our Scouts out doing a community service event. And the Scouts enjoy being out in the snow,” stated Tom McKown, troop committee chair.

This is more than just a service; it’s a chance for the community to support local youth in their efforts. Donations to support Troop 424 can be mailed to Troop 424, 914 Helena Ave., Jackson, MI 49203.

Residents are urged to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Schedule your pickup today, and help the Boy Scouts continue their valuable community service.
