Referee Dallas Edwards Hospitalized After Seizure During OVW Match
A serious incident occurred during an Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) event on March 14, 2024, when referee Dallas Edwards suffered a medical emergency. Edwards was participating as a second referee during a multi-man tag match when he became involved in a planned spot that went awry.
While attempting to facilitate the match, a competitor accidentally shoved Edwards, causing him to collide forcefully, resulting in a hard fall. Edwards remained on the mat for several moments before appearing to convulse, which led to concerns about a seizure. Throughout this time, the match continued, with one wrestler even moving Edwards out of the way to avoid further injury.
The situation escalated until the match was ultimately halted, and the show went off the air to allow for medical intervention. Edwards was transported to a local hospital, where he is reported to be awake, coherent, and in good spirits. OVW wrestler Jake Lawless shared a photo of Edwards in the hospital, displaying a thumbs-up gesture to assure fans of his condition.
The incident has drawn significant attention, especially from fellow wrestlers and fans. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful shared a statement from Edwards’ girlfriend, who highlighted that he suffered a brain injury that medical staff are currently monitoring. This revelation has sparked an outpouring of support and concern from the wrestling community.
In a poignant Facebook post, wrestler Beef/Gnarls Garvin expressed his anger towards those who did not assist Edwards during the emergency. He described the situation as “complete total negligence” and emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety in such dangerous environments. His post resonated with many, including WWE referee Jason Ayers, who responded with frustration, stating, “Absolutely infuriating.” Ayers extended his prayers for Edwards’ swift recovery.
As of now, OVW has not made a public statement addressing the incident or the circumstances surrounding it. The wrestling community continues to rally around Edwards, highlighting the need for vigilance and safety in the sport. The situation underscores the inherent risks involved in professional wrestling, where even a planned maneuver can lead to unexpected and serious consequences.
