Late Surge by Castle Rock Sinks Rochester Warriors 53-40
The Castle Rock Warriors fell to the Rochester Rockets with a final score of 53-40 on March 6, 2024. Despite a strong start, Rochester struggled to maintain their momentum, ultimately succumbing to a powerful late-game run by Castle Rock.
Rochester initially seized the lead, finishing the first quarter ahead at 14-11. However, the Rockets failed to score in the second quarter, allowing Castle Rock to take control and enter halftime with an 18-14 advantage. Rochester’s assistant coach, Kyle Ratkie, expressed frustration regarding his team’s inability to capitalize on their early performance. “We’ve been working on a different press, and they made better coverages,” Ratkie noted. “We couldn’t make a bucket. Got punched in the mouth again, and they bounced back.”
In the third quarter, Rochester regained some footing, narrowing the gap to just three points. As the fourth quarter began, the Rockets trailed by only one, showing signs of potential recovery. Coach Ratkie commented on this resurgence, saying, “The effort was great. It’s slowly but surely getting better each time.”
However, the momentum shifted as Castle Rock began to find their rhythm. “Castle Rock got a few shots, we turned the ball over a few times, and we couldn’t get back into it,” Ratkie added. Despite the loss marking Rochester’s fifth consecutive defeat, Ratkie remains optimistic about the team’s growth and development. “Even the late game possessions, understanding every possession matters,” he explained. “That’s something we learn as time goes on. Hopefully we get a ‘W’ here soon.”
Leading the scoring for Rochester, Tyson Canales contributed 13 points, while Isaac Derrick added 10. Other notable performances included Emmitt Mancuso with seven points and Clayton Knutson contributing five.
Rochester, now with a record of 0-5, will seek to turn things around in their next matchup against Centralia at home. The team aims to build on their recent efforts and secure their first victory of the season.
