Cam Cook Joins West Virginia, Reunites with Rich Rodriguez
Former Jacksonville State All-American running back Cam Cook has officially committed to West Virginia, where he will be reunited with former Gamecocks head coach Rich Rodriguez. Cook announced his decision on social media on Monday, marking a significant move in his collegiate football career.
Cook, a native of Round Rock, Texas, had a remarkable season at Jacksonville State, finishing with 1,659 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns across 295 carries. His performance not only led all players in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in total rushing yards but also positioned him second nationally with an impressive average of 127.6 rushing yards per game. During this standout season, Cook recorded a career-high 218 yards against Sam Houston State and achieved over 100 total offensive yards in every game he played, except for the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
In addition to his rushing accolades, Cook earned the prestigious Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors from Conference USA, as well as All-America recognition from several reputable organizations, including the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America. Prior to his time at Jacksonville State, Cook played two seasons for Texas Christian University (TCU), where he was a four-star prospect and led the Horned Frogs’ rushing attack in 2024 with 460 yards and nine touchdowns.
This move to West Virginia reunites Cook with Rodriguez, who took over at the Mountaineers after a successful stint at Jacksonville State, where he compiled a 27-10 overall record. In his first season at West Virginia, Rodriguez’s team finished with a 4-8 record, highlighted by a notable victory against No. 22 Houston. Rodriguez’s experience and past successes with Cook at Jacksonville State may provide a solid foundation for the player’s continued development at the collegiate level.
Rodriguez also brought on former Jax State offensive line coach Rick Trickett to bolster his coaching staff at West Virginia. This alignment may further facilitate Cook’s transition to the Big 12, enhancing his prospects in a competitive environment.
As the new season approaches, fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how Cook’s talents translate to the higher level of competition in the Big 12. With his impressive track record and the guidance of Rodriguez, Cook aims to make a significant impact in his new role at West Virginia.
