Beloved Father and Community Figure Arturo O. Valencia Passes Away
Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. His life is remembered for its unwavering dedication to family, hard work, and community engagement. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, whose legacy will endure through the stories and memories cherished by his loved ones.
Arturo was married to his wife, Nellie Valencia, for over 73 years. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John. He is survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco.
A Life of Passion and Dedication
Beyond his family, Art found joy in various pursuits. He and his family frequently camped at Glen Ivy, creating treasured memories in the great outdoors. An avid bowler, he participated in competitions for more than 40 years at Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. His athleticism also extended to softball, where he played in a men’s league at Torrance Park during the 1960s. Known as a skilled pool player, Art earned accolades and respect in Torrance for his tournament victories.
Arturo’s roots run deep in the Torrance community. He attended Torrance High School and built a successful career as a Master Mechanic. His work at Soule’ Steel in Carson spanned two decades, after which he joined McDonnell Douglas. His remarkable work ethic and precision earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers alike.
A Legacy of Love and Community
Arturo was a self-made man who transformed his humble beginnings into a life filled with purpose and accomplishment. He was particularly proud of the home he meticulously restored, each project reflecting his craftsmanship, dedication, and care. A passionate reader and lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, he found joy in literature, taking special pride in the fact that his sons once delivered that very paper.
Although he is no longer physically present, Art’s spirit continues to resonate in the memories shared by his family and friends. His lessons and the love he imparted will forever be a part of their lives.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arturo O. Valencia’s life during a memorial service on October 27, 2025, at 4 PM. The service will take place at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
