Organizers Share Top Storage Solutions for Winter Coats
As winter approaches, many households face the challenge of storing bulky winter coats while maintaining a tidy entryway. To address this common dilemma, five professional organizers shared their top recommendations for effective storage solutions that maximize space without sacrificing style.
Tracy McCubbin, CEO and founder of dClutterfly, emphasizes the effectiveness of wall-mounted coat hooks. “My favorite extra storage for overflow winter jackets is something so simple and accessible: these wall-mounted coat hooks available at Amazon,” she explains. These hooks can be installed in various locations, allowing for a custom fit that keeps coats off floors and seating areas, thereby minimizing clutter.
Maximizing Space with Hall Trees
Next, Ben Soreff, a professional organizer with House to Home Organizing, suggests investing in a hall tree with a bench and shoe storage, easily found at retailers like Wayfair. “We want a small footprint,” he advises, highlighting the importance of maintaining habits to prevent clutter from accumulating on hooks. Soreff recommends a seasonal swap, keeping only everyday shoes in the entryway to streamline organization.
To further enhance organization, Soreff points out the utility of clear plastic bins, available at Walmart, for storing items like hats and gloves. These bins can easily fit into hall trees, allowing for categorization and easy access. He also stresses the importance of regular reviews to avoid the accumulation of unnecessary items.
Coat Racks for Versatile Storage
Courtney Cummings, founder of The Stylish Organizer, advocates for wall-mounted or free-standing coat racks as effective solutions for those without a designated coat closet. She recommends the wall-mounted TJUSIG Hanger from IKEA, which offers flexibility in arrangement and serves as both a coat and bag hook. Cummings highlights the importance of utilizing vertical space to maintain a neat entryway.
Alternatively, McCubbin suggests a portable free-standing coat rack, such as the Simple Houseware Standing Coat and Hat Hanger Organizer Rack, available at Amazon. “It’s portable, and you can use it for every season,” she notes. A critical tip from McCubbin is to declutter regularly, questioning how many winter coats are truly in use.
With the right approach to winter coat storage, entryways can become organized and welcoming spaces. As the experts advise, incorporating simple solutions like wall hooks, hall trees, and coat racks can significantly enhance functionality while ensuring that every item has its place.
Ultimately, maintaining a clutter-free entryway not only makes for a more serene space but also creates a positive first impression for guests during the busy holiday season.
