Marc Douglas Berardo Welcomes Craig Bickhardt to ‘Harbor Songs’
Local singer-songwriter Marc Douglas Berardo is set to continue his beloved “Harbor Songs” concert series, introducing acclaimed songwriter Craig Bickhardt to audiences in Westerly on Sunday. This event will take place at the United Theatre, a new venue for Berardo’s series after his previous location, The Malted Barley, closed in February 2023.
Craig Bickhardt is renowned for his songwriting prowess, having co-written songs for notable artists such as Art Garfunkel, Nicolette Larson, and Kathy Mattea. His impressive credits include the Judds’ hit “I Know Where I’m Going,” co-written with Don Schlitz, and “It Must Be Love,” a number one hit for Ty Herndon. Bickhardt’s extensive career showcases his ability to craft songs that resonate with diverse audiences.
Berardo, who has been performing for over 30 years, created the “Harbor Songs” series to share his favorite songwriters with local fans. The inaugural show featured the late David Olney, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter who tragically passed away during a performance in January 2021. Throughout the pandemic, Berardo adapted by hosting online broadcasts, maintaining a connection with music lovers.
Since resuming live concerts, Berardo has welcomed a range of artists, including Walt Wilkins, Danielle Miraglia, and Abbie Gardner from the band Red Molly. Notable local guests have also graced the stage, such as Sandman Allen and Kyle Rathburn.
The transition to the United Theatre has reinvigorated the series, with the first show featuring Grammy-nominated Ari Hest in November 2023. Following this, Berardo has showcased other touring artists, including Grace Morrison and special guests like Chris Berardo and Jim Paradis.
“The Harbor Songs format allows the song makers to tell the stories behind their songs and present them in a stripped-down and intimate way,” Berardo noted. He emphasizes that these concerts offer audiences a chance to experience the beauty and mystery of songwriting.
Tickets for the upcoming concert are priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door. They are available for purchase on the United Theatre’s website, unitedtheatre.org. For more information on future shows, fans can visit marcdouglas.com.
As Berardo continues this cherished tradition, local audiences can look forward to an evening filled with storytelling and memorable music from one of the industry’s master songwriters.
