The City of Jacksonville has announced an increase in the frequency of its Food Farmacy events, aimed at providing free food to active duty military families. This initiative addresses the pressing issue of food security within military households, reflecting the city’s commitment to supporting those who serve.

The Food Farmacy events will now occur at two key locations for military families. At Naval Station Mayport, distributions will be held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, while NAS Jacksonville will host similar events on the second and fourth Tuesdays. These locations are situated at 390 Mayport Road and 5391 Collins Road, respectively. Families must present valid military identification to receive food and additional support. Details regarding the schedule for December 2023 are currently pending.

Collaborative Effort to Support Military Families

The expanded Food Farmacy program is a joint initiative involving the Military Affairs and Veterans Department, Feeding Northeast Florida, and BEAM. This collaboration underscores the importance of community efforts in providing essential resources to military families, who often face unique challenges related to food access.

In its announcement, the City of Jacksonville expressed gratitude towards the organizations involved, acknowledging their contributions to the military community. This expanded support is expected to make a significant impact, helping to alleviate food insecurity among those who dedicate their lives to serving the nation.

The increase in Food Farmacy events demonstrates Jacksonville’s proactive approach to addressing the needs of its military families. By facilitating access to nutritious food, the city aims to enhance the well-being of these families, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
