Heritage Ohio Recognizes George Sam as Main Street Manager of the Year
During its annual conference in Canton, Ohio, Heritage Ohio presented the inaugural Main Street Manager of the Year award to George Sam, the executive director of Main Street Medina. This recognition highlights Sam’s contributions to community revitalization and historic preservation since he joined the organization in 2018 and became executive director in 2022.
“It was a total surprise to me. I had no idea until the award ceremony,” Sam remarked. He expressed deep appreciation for the honor but emphasized the collective efforts of all managers across the 40 communities that comprise Heritage Ohio, acknowledging their vital roles in community development.
Achievements in Community Development
Heritage Ohio annually celebrates organizations that make significant impacts through projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing local communities. According to a press release from Main Street Medina, under Sam’s leadership, the organization has achieved remarkable milestones. His vision and strategic approach have led to expanded preservation efforts, increased community engagement, and the initiation of impactful projects.
Notable among these projects are a facade grant and loan initiative, as well as substantial improvements in the South Town District, enhancing the area’s gateway and overall activation. These efforts have contributed to a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere in Historic Medina.
“George has led the Main Street Medina organization to new heights through vision, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to community,” stated Amy Busby, Vice Chair of Main Street Medina. “Thanks to George’s guidance, Historic Medina and the South Town District are more vibrant, connected, and welcoming, instilling a renewed sense of pride and belonging within the community.”
Acknowledging Team Efforts
Despite receiving the individual accolade, Sam was quick to share the spotlight with his team. “Everyone, including our board of directors, our committees, our volunteers, and staff, work so hard,” he said. “It really is all about collaboration and cooperation.” This acknowledgment of teamwork underscores the collective commitment to fostering a thriving community.
The recognition of George Sam as the first recipient of the Main Street Manager of the Year award serves not only as a personal achievement but also as a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines Main Street Medina. As the organization moves forward, it aims to continue building on its successes and enhancing the community’s legacy.
