Eugene Lyons, Veteran and Family Man, Passes Away at 101

Eugene Lyons, a dedicated family man and U.S. Air Force veteran, passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 101 after a prolonged battle with dementia. His life spanned over a century, marked by service, love, and family. Lyons is now reunited with his late wife, Laura Grace Lyons, who died in 2015.

Born on November 1, 1924, in Long Branch, New Jersey, Eugene was the son of Matilda Clark Lyons and McKinely Lyons. Known affectionately as “Husky” by friends in Asbury Park, he married Laura Grace Green on July 15, 1957, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The couple began their family in Moses Lake, Washington, before eventually settling in Vacaville, California.

Eugene served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, a commitment that showcased his dedication to his country. Following his military career, he transitioned to a 16-year role with the U.S. Post Office, where he continued to serve his community.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Alfred Lyon, William Lyons, and Leon Hodge. Eugene is survived by his three children: his daughter, Laura Jean Lyons Bogardus, and her husband, Ronald Bogardus, of Vacaville; his son, Eugene Lyons, Jr., of Edina, Minnesota; and his youngest son, Golvin Scott Lyons, and his wife, DeAnna Williams Lyons, of Sacramento, California.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jessica Bogardus, Keylan Scott Lyons, Keisha Denise Mask, Kasaundra Grace Stampler, Korie Jean Lyons, Karlee Lynn Lyons, Breanna Grace Lyons, and Gianna Lorainne Hill. He also leaves behind a growing number of great-grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Services

Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during visitation services on January 12, 2026, from 18:00 to 20:30 at McCune Garden Chapel, located at 212 Main Street, Vacaville, CA 95688. The church funeral service will take place the following day, January 13, 2026, at 09:30 at First Baptist Church, 1127 Davis Street, Vacaville, CA 95687.

Following the church service, military burial services will occur at 13:15 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, located at 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.

In memory of Eugene, family members invite those wishing to honor his life to consider planting a living memorial or sending flowers. Eugene Lyons leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and family that will endure through the generations he cherished.
