Emma Stone Nominated for Golden Globe for ‘Bugonia’
Emma Stone has received a nomination for the prestigious Golden Globe Awards for her role in the film Bugonia. The nomination was announced on December 8, 2024, by actors Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall. Stone is recognized in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her portrayal of a cold-hearted CEO who becomes the target of a conspiracy theorist, played by fellow nominee Jesse Plemons, who believes she is an alien.
This marks the ninth Golden Globe nomination for Stone, who previously won the award in 2017 for her role in La La Land and again in 2024 for Poor Things. Both performances also garnered her Academy Awards for Best Actress. With the Oscars approaching, speculation is already rife about her chances of winning again for Bugonia.
While many consider Jessie Buckley a frontrunner for her acclaimed performance in Hamnet, Stone’s work in Bugonia cannot be overlooked. She delivers a multifaceted performance, navigating a range of emotions from hardened executive to vulnerable captive, often within the same scene. Her ability to infuse humor into a complex character adds depth to her portrayal.
Stone continues to take on diverse and challenging roles since her Oscar win. Unlike some actors who may opt for safer choices post-award, she has embraced unconventional characters, showcasing her versatility and establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most intriguing talents.
The competition in the Golden Globe’s musical or comedy category is fierce. Stone faces off against notable actresses including Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked: For Good, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, and Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Each nominee brings a unique performance to the table, making this a highly competitive category.
As the awards season unfolds, all eyes will be on Stone and her fellow nominees, eagerly anticipating the outcomes of both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Stone’s nomination for Bugonia not only highlights her talent but also reinforces her status as a leading figure in contemporary cinema.
