The Cook County Clerk’s Office is now accepting applications for a unique lottery that will grant the first marriage license of 2026. Under the oversight of Clerk Monica Gordon, applications will be open until December 19, 2025. The lottery drawing is scheduled for December 22, 2025, with the winning couple set to tie the knot on January 2, 2026, marking the first official day of business in Cook County for the new year.

Several local businesses have generously contributed gifts for the winning couple, adding a festive touch to the occasion. Among the offerings is a Newlywed Gourmet Dinner Gift Box from Whittingham Meats, featuring filet mignon, strip steaks, and lobster tails. Additionally, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant will provide a sparkling wine basket complete with champagne flutes, while Eli’s Cheesecake will offer a gift card.

The excitement continues with a wedding dance lesson courtesy of Duet Dance Studio and a virtual cooking lesson provided by The Chopping Block. Floral arrangements will be supplied by LaSalle Flower Group, and the couple will receive two tickets to a comedy show at the Laugh Factory Chicago.

Couples interested in entering the lottery can submit their applications online at cookcountyclerk.com/firstmarriage. This initiative not only celebrates love but also supports local businesses while providing a memorable experience for the winning couple. As the new year approaches, this lottery offers a delightful opportunity for couples to start their journey together in Cook County.
