Founded by Karen Barnes, who has personally navigated the challenges of being a guardian for her granddaughter, Grands Stepping Up aims to create a network of support for those in similar situations. “I had met a plethora of people along the way and realized that we were all suffering or in commonality with one another,” Barnes explained. “I just wanted to do something to be a conduit of change and to support them.”

The organization operates a resource center known as Denis’ Pantry, named in memory of Barnes’ brother who passed away. Located at Bethany Church in Havertown, Denis’ Pantry offers essential items such as food, toiletries, paper products, and baby supplies. These resources are distributed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month throughout the year.

This holiday season, Grands Stepping Up has expanded its outreach by selecting both grandparent guardian households and other families in need as recipients for their holiday gift drive.
