Warriors’ Kuminga Out with Knee Injury; Team Faces Timberwolves
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga will miss additional time due to a bone bruise and a hyperextended left knee, the team confirmed on Sunday. This announcement came just before the Warriors were set to play against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game had been rescheduled from Saturday following the tragic shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis, which necessitated a focus on community safety.
The Warriors indicated that a timeline for re-evaluating Kuminga’s injury will be established “in the coming days.” This setback is particularly significant as Kuminga had just returned to the lineup after the season-ending knee injury sustained by teammate Jimmy Butler. Prior to this, Kuminga had been sidelined for a month, raising speculation about his potential trade before the deadline on February 5.
Team Adjustments and Player Status
Kuminga’s injury forced him to miss the most recent game against Dallas on Thursday, where he underwent an MRI on Friday to assess the damage. His absence adds to the Warriors’ challenges, as they navigate through a season that has seen various injuries impacting their roster.
On a more positive note, Warriors star Stephen Curry was initially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game due to soreness in his right knee that developed during Saturday’s practice. After going through pregame warmups, he was cleared to play, offering a much-needed boost to the team.
Additionally, Coach Steve Kerr announced that backups De’Anthony Melton and Al Horford would not participate in the Sunday game due to injury management protocols. Both players are expected to return for the rematch against the Timberwolves on Monday night.
As the season progresses, the Warriors will need to adapt quickly to these injury challenges while maintaining their competitive edge in the league.
