Sanford Health has enhanced its medical imaging capabilities with the introduction of a new 1.5 Tesla MRI machine at the Southpointe clinic in Fargo, North Dakota. The latest addition, unveiled on February 13, 2026, marks the second MRI machine added by Sanford this year, bringing the total number of MRI machines in the metro area to seven.

The new MRI machine complements existing equipment at various facilities, including Sanford Broadway, Sanford Medical Center Fargo, Sanford Brain and Spine Clinic, and Sanford Moorhead. This expansion aims to improve patient care by providing faster access to diagnostic imaging services.

Paul Burud, Vice President of Sanford Operations, emphasized the importance of the new machine in expediting patient diagnoses. He stated, “Depending on what diagnosis you’re being treated for, it just gives more opportunity to get our patients in quicker and get that diagnosis they need, and whatever treatment they need to follow.”

The 1.5 Tesla MRI is equipped with cutting-edge software and technologies not available in previous scanners. Burud noted, “It allows some new technologies that we didn’t have in prior scanners.” This advancement is expected to enhance the quality of imaging and diagnostic accuracy significantly.

The state-of-the-art machine will operate Monday through Friday, accommodating both contrast and non-contrast studies. Burud further explained, “The quicker we can get people in, the quicker they can get their diagnosis and treatment and move on. That’s the whole goal.”

Sanford Health’s commitment to improving patient care through technological advancements is evident in this latest investment. By adding another MRI machine, the health system continues to demonstrate its dedication to providing timely and efficient healthcare services to the Fargo community and beyond.
