Michael Schliebe Remembered for His Faith and Community Impact
Michael Edward Schliebe, a dedicated husband, brother, and community member, passed away on December 7, 2025, at his home in Puyallup, Washington, following a brief battle with esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, Cyndy Schliebe, at the time of his death, marking the end of a life filled with service and devotion. Schliebe was 70 years old.
Born on January 29, 1955, in Long Beach, California, to Milton Edward and Shirley Ann Schliebe (Davis), Michael was raised in a family that valued faith and community. The family regularly attended First Lutheran Church in Long Beach, where Michael actively participated in church activities, showcasing his strong faith. He often shared his remarkable singing voice as a member of the church choir and contributed to various ministries, including leading the handbell choir and serving as church treasurer for many years.
Michael’s journey with Cyndy began in 1971 at First Lutheran Church, where their friendship blossomed through church activities. The couple married in 1979, establishing their home in Long Beach. In 1986, Michael transitioned from a successful career at McKesson Office Supplies to a role with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. His work at the Lomita Sheriff’s Station included various positions, ultimately serving as the early morning dispatcher and watch deputy until his retirement in 2016.
After retirement, the Schliebes relocated to the Pacific Northwest, where Michael discovered a passion for golf and curling. He participated in a “learn to curl” class, which ignited a love for the sport that led him to curl on many Friday nights in Western Washington. In addition to these pursuits, Michael was an enthusiastic SCUBA diver and snow skier, known for his involvement in the “Ski Talk” videos produced by the Lutheran Men’s Beer Drinking League.
Traveling was a significant part of Michael and Cyndy’s life together. They explored North America extensively and enjoyed ocean cruises, with one of their most memorable experiences being a National Geographic cruise to the Antarctic. During this trip, the couple participated in the “Polar Plunge,” jumping into the icy waters off the coast of Antarctica.
Michael is survived by his wife, Cyndy, his brother Steve, his sister Kim Biondo (Vito), and several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter and warm smile.
As First Lutheran Church has closed its doors, Michael’s memorial service will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church, located at 4644 Clark Ave., Long Beach, California, on January 10, 2026, at 13:00. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Samaritans Purse (World Medical Missions or International Crisis Response), Tunnel to Towers, or the Wounded Warriors Project.
Michael Schliebe’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him, as he now rests in the presence of God, leaving behind a profound impact on his family and community.
