Life Extension Unveils New Bee Propolis Supplement for Respiratory Health
Life Extension has introduced its latest product, the Life Extension Bee Immune Propolis Capsules, which aims to enhance respiratory health and bolster immune function. Launched on December 9, 2025, this supplement offers a standardized extract of bee propolis, which has been shown in studies to reduce the frequency and duration of respiratory challenges.
According to preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 50 to 80 million people in the United States experienced upper respiratory issues last year. The new propolis capsules provide a consistent dose of polyphenols, which are believed to support immune health.
In a double-blind clinical trial, participants who took the standardized bee propolis twice daily reported a 31% decrease in the likelihood of experiencing respiratory discomfort compared to those receiving a placebo. Additionally, the study revealed that standardized propolis supplementation minimized the number and duration of seasonal respiratory discomfort by 29% and 34%, respectively.
Understanding Bee Propolis and Its Benefits
Bee propolis, often referred to as “bee glue,” is a resinous substance produced by honeybees from plant compounds. Asha Jaja-Chimedza, PhD, Discovery Research Manager at Life Extension, explained that bees utilize this mixture to protect their hives from environmental threats. “Research demonstrates that polyphenols in propolis can bolster a healthy immune response and support upper respiratory tract health,” she noted.
The use of bee propolis for respiratory support has been prevalent for generations. Michael A. Smith, MD, Director of Education at Life Extension, pointed out a significant challenge with traditional propolis products: inconsistency. “Raw propolis and many standard supplements lack standardization,” he said. Variations in the polyphenol content can lead to inconsistent benefits, making it difficult for consumers to rely on these products.
To address this issue, the team at Life Extension developed a standardized extract formulation. “We opted for a bee propolis extract standardized to 12% polyphenols due to the clinical evidence supporting its immune respiratory health benefits,” Dr. Jaja-Chimedza stated.
