Bostonians Set New Year’s Resolutions for 2026 with Personal Goals
As the new year approaches, residents of Boston are embracing the tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions for 2026. This annual ritual serves as an opportunity for individuals to reset and focus on their personal goals. WBZ-TV’s Samantha Chaney took to Boston Common, engaging with locals to uncover their aspirations for the upcoming year.
Among the resolutions shared, family connections emerged as a significant theme. Sisto Serafini expressed his desire to “spend more quality time with our family,” highlighting the importance of nurturing relationships. Similarly, Emma Durney articulated her goal to “travel more,” reflecting a common yearning for exploration and new experiences.
While some resolutions are more elaborate, others embrace simplicity. Abi Watts shared her intention “to be more patient and content in the little things.” She explained that her focus is on finding joy in her current circumstances rather than constantly seeking the next adventure. This sentiment resonates with many who aim to cultivate mindfulness and gratitude as the new year begins.
For others, resolutions carry deeper personal significance. Matthew Tomeny revealed a significant commitment: “My resolution for the year is to quit nicotine. I’ve been vaping since 8th grade, so I want to be done with it.” Tomeny emphasized the impact of his habits on his health, stating that his goal for the new year is to become a healthier individual.
The journey of maintaining resolutions, however, can be challenging. Serafini acknowledged the common struggle, admitting, “You know how it works, the first week, and then it kind of fails.” Yet, he also recognizes that the act of setting resolutions can serve a greater purpose. Lawrent Kim encapsulated this idea, stating, “It’s about the mindset. We all need check-ins, and January 1 is a good excuse to do that.”
This year’s reflections in Boston echo sentiments found across various regions as individuals prepare to welcome 2026. The practice of setting resolutions not only inspires personal growth but also fosters a sense of community as people share their hopes and aspirations for the future.
