Andy Dick Attributes Overdose to Fentanyl, Declares Recovery

Comedian Andy Dick claims he is “110 percent” fine after footage emerged showing him unresponsive on steps in Hollywood, an incident attributed to an apparent overdose. In a series of updates to media outlets, Dick stated he believes the synthetic opioid fentanyl is responsible for the medical emergency he experienced earlier this week.

The incident occurred on March 7, 2025, when Dick was out with friends. He recounted to the New York Post that he briefly left the group after being approached by a stranger. “There was a guy that was my age and I felt for him,” Dick said in an interview with TMZ. “He was depressed and he was on the sidewalk … and then he whipped out [what looked like] crack.” Dick admitted to using drugs during this encounter.

Afterward, he collapsed. According to eyewitness Shawn Harrell, who witnessed the scene, Dick appeared to be in serious distress. “He was blue. His hands [were] blue and his face was blue,” Harrell told People. “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. … I thought he passed away.” Emergency responders administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, and Dick was reportedly able to leave the area with a friend.

Reflections on Substance Use

In his comments to the New York Post, Dick suggested that fentanyl was the only substance that could incapacitate him so rapidly. “It has to be [fentanyl],” he explained, noting that paramedics indicated it was the likely cause of his condition. “That’s the only thing that can kill you that quickly, like I just dropped.”

Despite his serious experience, Dick later indicated that his comments about using crack cocaine were meant to be humorous. “I jokingly said ‘a little crack every now and then [is] not gonna kill anybody,’ but it killed me,” he remarked. “It killed me. I died, you know, my lips turned purple.”

While Dick has a history of drug and alcohol-related incidents, including arrests for public intoxication and sexual misconduct, he reportedly consumes more alcohol than drugs, according to a TMZ report. His recent remarks highlight the ongoing challenges associated with substance use and addiction, particularly involving potent drugs like fentanyl.
