‘Scarpetta’ Stars Bobby Cannavale and Simon Baker Discuss Season 2
Prime Video’s series *Scarpetta* is generating significant buzz as stars Bobby Cannavale and Simon Baker share insights about the upcoming second season following a dramatic finale. The show, based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling novels, has captivated audiences with its complex characters and intricate plots. As filming for Season 2 approaches, both actors reflect on their roles and the future of their characters.
Cannavale portrays Pete, a rugged former detective entangled in a complicated love triangle with Kay, played by Baker’s character, Benton, and Dorothy. The series delves into the tensions that arise when former colleagues find themselves living under the same roof, confronting not only their pasts but also their emotional entanglements.
In an interview with Collider, Cannavale expressed excitement about reuniting with Nicole Kidman, with whom he previously collaborated in *Nine Perfect Strangers*. He noted that while he did not initially see parallels between the two projects, he values the opportunity to work with such a talented actress again. “When I got asked to do it again, I didn’t hesitate,” Cannavale said.
Baker’s character, Benton, presents an intriguing contrast to Cannavale’s Pete. While initially appearing enigmatic and reserved, Baker explains that the depth of Benton is gradually revealed throughout the series. He described his preparation for the role as a collaborative effort with showrunner Elizabeth Sarnoff, stating, “We’ve basically got an open book on where we can go.”
As the first season came to a close, viewers witnessed pivotal moments that will shape the trajectory of Season 2. The finale featured emotional conflicts among the main characters, with significant implications for their relationships. Cannavale reflected on the complexities of Pete’s decision to choose Dorothy over Kay, suggesting that it stems from a mix of love and confusion. “I think he’s stuck in an emotional limbo,” he commented, hinting at the potential for further exploration of this conflict in the new season.
Baker offered his interpretation of the tense interaction between Kay and Benton in the finale, describing it as a struggle for truth. “They’re both trying to find a truth, and they’re not really able to,” he explained. This clash of motivations adds another layer of complexity to the characters’ relationships, setting the stage for continued development in Season 2.
Looking ahead, both actors expressed their eagerness to explore new dynamics and deeper character arcs. Baker indicated a desire to see more interaction between his character and Cannavale’s Pete. “There is always stuff to explore,” he noted. Cannavale humorously suggested a “spin-off comedy” featuring their characters, emphasizing the contrasting nature of their roles.
As anticipation builds for the second season, which premieres on March 11, 2026, fans are eager to see how Cannavale and Baker’s characters evolve. With a rich narrative foundation and dynamic performances at the forefront, *Scarpetta* promises to deliver more gripping drama and character exploration in its upcoming season.
