Leighton Meester Hints at Musical Comeback After 11-Year Break
Leighton Meester has sparked excitement among fans by hinting at a potential return to music more than 11 years after her debut album, Heartstrings. During an exclusive interview with E! News at the premiere of her latest project, I Love LA, in Los Angeles on October 28, 2023, Meester expressed her readiness to explore music again, stating, “I’m just about ready. But it’s a lot. It takes a lot, so I don’t know. I’ll do it eventually.”
While contemplating her musical future, Meester remains focused on her acting career. She recently appeared in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This and stars as Alyssa in I Love LA, set to premiere on HBO Max on November 2, 2023. The series features a talented cast, including Rachel Sennott, Josh Hutcherson, Jordan Firstman, and Odessa A’zion. Meester described the filming experience as memorable from the very beginning, recalling a particularly lively first day on set. “We had a night shoot with a stripper,” she said, humorously adding, “I got a long, long, all-night-long lap dance.”
As she balances her career and family life, the 39-year-old actress looks forward to celebrating Halloween with her husband, Adam Brody, and their two children, a ten-year-old daughter named Arlo and a five-year-old son. “I love Halloween,” she shared. “I love decorating. We do all the presents and all this stuff. It’s really fun. We have kids, so it’s extra special and sweet.”
Reflecting on her 11-year hiatus from music, Meester previously explained her decision to step away from the pop scene after the release of Heartstrings in 2014. “I just didn’t feel like I sang that well in those songs,” she told Bustle in May. She added, “That’s why I stopped doing that style of songwriting because I didn’t feel really good when I would sing it. That was something that I figured out in my 20s.”
The first episode of I Love LA is set to air on HBO Max at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on November 2, with new episodes releasing weekly until December 21, 2023. As Meester hints at a musical comeback, fans are eager to see how her artistic journey continues to unfold.
