KATSEYE Aims for Collaboration with Charli XCX After Grammy Nod
KATSEYE, the rising girl group, has expressed a strong desire to collaborate with acclaimed British pop star Charli XCX. In an interview with People published on January 7, 2025, group member Manon Bannerman shared her enthusiasm for a potential partnership, noting that their recent interaction has sparked hopes for future collaboration.
“I just recently met her, and I think we all really hope to work with her more in the future,” Bannerman stated. She emphasized that Charli, who co-wrote KATSEYE’s Billboard Hot 100 hit “Gabriela,” is a significant influence on the group. “She’s definitely a KATSEYE girlie, and we’re in love with Brat and everything about her. She’s such an inspiration to us,” Bannerman added.
Grammy Recognition and Industry Challenges
This announcement comes shortly after KATSEYE gained recognition with their first-ever Grammy nomination in the best new artist category. They share this accolade with artists such as Addison Rae, Lola Young, and Olivia Dean. The group, which includes members Sophia Laforteza, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung, has made a significant impact with hits like “Gabriela” and “Gnarly”.
Despite their success, KATSEYE has faced challenges, including a troubling wave of online harassment. In a recent interview with BBC News, Raj shared, “If 1,000 people are sending you death threats, it’s jarring.” Laforteza added, “We know it’s a part of fame. But it doesn’t change the fact that we are human.”
The group is navigating this tumultuous environment while also receiving support from established artists. Raj mentioned that Kehlani recently reached out, offering valuable advice. “She’s someone I really, really look up to,” Raj remarked. “She gave a lot of advice about pushing through. A lot of artists that we look up to have encouraged us to stay present and enjoy real life, not just the online world.”
Charli XCX’s Upcoming Projects
While KATSEYE looks forward to a potential collaboration, Charli XCX is currently preparing for the release of her new album, a companion piece to Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation of the classic novel, *Wuthering Heights*, which features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. The album is anticipated to include tracks like “House” and “Chains of Love”.
As KATSEYE continues to rise in the music industry, the prospect of working with Charli XCX excites both the group and their fans. With their recent Grammy nomination and growing popularity, KATSEYE is poised to further establish themselves as a formidable force in the music scene.
