Donyelle Jones, Beloved Dancer, Passes Away at 46 After Cancer Battle
Renowned dancer Donyelle Jones, known for her captivating performances on the reality show So You Think You Can Dance, has died at the age of 46 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Her family confirmed the news on December 2, 2025, through her official social media account, where fans and fellow dancers have been expressing their condolences.
Family Tribute and Health Struggles
Jones, also known as Donyelle Denise Wilson, was diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer in 2016, which later progressed to stage 4 metastatic cancer. Her family shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating, “Today at 8:34 am, Donyelle Denise Wilson transitioned. A wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend. And a warrior who kicked cancer’s a– every single day she was here. Her spirit never dimmed. Her heart never hardened. And even in the storm, she never lost her smile.”
Throughout her health struggles, Jones remained open about her journey, regularly updating her followers on Instagram. She underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, as reported by Dancers Against Cancer. In May 2025, she revealed that her condition had advanced to stage 4, and just a week before her passing, she announced that she was in hospice care. In her final video, she shared that her liver had shut down and expressed gratitude for the support and prayers she had received over the years.
A Legacy in Dance and Film
Donyelle Jones gained widespread recognition as a finalist on the second season of So You Think You Can Dance, which aired in 2006. Her unique blend of hip-hop and jazz fusion earned her a third-place finish, captivating audiences and judges alike. Beyond television, Jones appeared in the films Be Cool in 2005 and Spirited in 2022, showcasing her diverse talent.
Jones’s legacy transcends her performances; she inspired many through her courageous fight against cancer. As news of her passing spreads, tributes from fans and colleagues alike highlight her indomitable spirit and the mark she left on the dance community.
