André Øvredal’s Next Horror Film ‘Passenger’ Set for May 2026 Release
Director André Øvredal has announced the release date for his upcoming horror film, titled Passenger. The film, produced by Paramount Pictures, is slated to hit theaters in the United States on May 29, 2026.
Øvredal, a Norwegian filmmaker known for his work on Trollhunter (2010) and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019), brings a wealth of experience to the horror genre. He has also directed films like The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) and The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023).
As details about Passenger remain largely undisclosed, it is crucial to clarify that this film is not to be mistaken for previous movies titled Passengers, such as the 2016 film featuring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, or the 2008 release with Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson. The cast of Øvredal’s new project includes Jacob Scipio, recognized for his roles in Maintenance Required and Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Lou Llobell, known for Foundation, and Melissa Leo, acclaimed for her performances in The Equalizer 3 and The Fighter.
Competing Releases and Production Insights
On the same day, another film titled Stop! That! Train! is set to be released. Directed by Adam Shankman and featuring RuPaul Charles, this action-comedy may pose competition for Passenger. Additionally, Disney and Lucasfilm will debut The Mandalorian and Grogu the week prior on May 22, 2026, while Amazon MGM Studios and Travis Knight will release the anticipated Masters of the Universe film the following week on June 5, 2026.
Produced by Gary Dauberman under his Coin Operated banner, alongside Walter Hamada from 18Hx, Passenger looks to make a significant impact in the horror film landscape. Although discussions regarding a sequel to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark are ongoing, no official release date has been confirmed at this time. Reports also indicate that Øvredal is attached to direct a feature film adaptation of the popular video game Bendy and the Ink Machine.
As the release date for Passenger approaches, anticipation builds among fans of the horror genre, eager to see what Øvredal will deliver next.
